Bhajnicha sanja

This is one of the recipes my grandmother used to prepare!! Very healthy & tasty recipe good for breakfast!

Ingredients :
Chakali or Thalipithachi bhajni : 1  Cup
Chopped onion : 3/4 th cup
green chilli : 2-3 cut into small pieces
Curry leaves : 5-6
Salt : 1 tsp
Sugar : 1 tsp
Fresh coconut : 2 tsp ( to garnish )
Chopped coriander : 2 tsp
Lemon juice :2 tsp
water : 1 cup or as required
Vegetable oil : 4 tsp
Mustard seeds : 1 tsp
Cumin seeds : 1/2 tsp
Hing : 1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder : 1/2 tsp
Chopped carrot, fresh beans, green peas or any other veggies you like can be added.

Recipe :
1. In a heavy bottom pan add oil. On the gas stove.
2. When oil becomes hot add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, turmeric powder & hing one by one.
3. Add green chilli & curry leaves. Add onion & cook it till soft.
4. Bhajni is prepared with all roasted cereals. so it is directly added in above mixture. No need of roasting like suji.
5. Mix everything properly.
6. Add salt, sugar & lemon juice.
8. Add 1/2 cup of water. Mix properly. Then add remaining water if required.
9. Cover the pan with lid. After 5 minutes open the lid, sanja should not be sticky.
10. Turn off the gas. Garnish with coriander & fresh coconut.

Enjoy this healthy & tasty breakfast with dahi.




Ragi Halwa ( sheera )

In this winter try this healthy Ragi & suji  sheera !!




Ingredients :
Ragi flour : 1 cup
Suji : 1/2  Cup
Jaggery : 1 Cup 
Milk   : 1 Cup
Water : 1 1/2 cups
Sliced Banana : 1/2 cup ( optional )
Elaichi (Green Cardamom) powder : 1/2 tsp
Jaiphal ( nutmeg ) powder : 1/2 tsp
Golden raisins : 4 tsp
Desi Ghee : 4 tbsp
Coarse almond powder : 2 tsp
Cashews : For decotation.
Small pinch of Salt.

Recipe :
1. In a heavy bottom pan or kadhai add 3 tbsp of desi ghee.
2. When ghee melts add ragi flour &  suji in it & roast properly till it turns brownish red. You will come to know with its heavenly aroma. Add sliced banana & mix it . Save some slices for decoration.
3. On another gas stove boil milk,water with jaggery, jaiphal powder & elaichi powder.
4. Milk will curdle but doesn't matter. Add this mixture to ragi n suji mixture.
6. Mix it properly & cover the pan. Keep it on low flame till all milk &  water mixture evaporates. 
7. At this stage add remaining 1 tbsp ghee mix again properly & turn off the flame. Add                       almond powder.
8. Let it be covered for 5 minutes.
9. Garnish it with cashews & banana slices & enjoy!!





Savory Rawa Cake

Ingredients :
Fine Rawa (Suji ) : 1 cup ( 250 ml )
All purpose flour ( Maida ) : 1/2 cup
Butter :2 tsp ( I used Amul butter )
Grated Cheese : 3 tsp
Vegetable oil : 3 tsp
Ginger paste : 1/2 tsp
Green chilli paste : 1 tsp
Garlic paste : 1/2 tsp
Chopped Green beans : 1/4 cup
Chopped carrot : 1/4 cup
Finely chopped onion : 3 tsp
Green peas : 1/4 cup
Chopped spinach : 1/4 cup
Boiled corns : 3 tsp 
Plain yogurt : 1 Cup
Water : 1 cup
Baking Powder : 1  tsp
Baking Soda     : 1 tsp
Salt : 1 tsp or as per taste.


Recipe :
1.Dry roast rawa till it becomes light brown. Do not over roast. Let it cool .
2. Take  vegetable oil in a pan. Add all chopped vegetables when it becomes hot. Saute for 2-3 minutes. Do not overcook. Add salt. Preserve some corns to top on the cake. 
3. Add butter, cheese chilli garlic ginger paste & mix well.
5. Add roasted rawa, maida & yogurt. Mix.
6. Add water slowly till dropping consistency.
7. Add baking powder & baking soda & mix gently.  
8. Greese the cake pans & line with parchment paper.
10. Bake at 180C for 30 min. in preheated oven.
9. Cut & enjoy this different cake with sauce or dahi !!!.

Daliya upma

Easy & healthy breakfast  Daliya upma !!

Ingredients :
Daliya : 1  Cup
Chopped onion : 1/2 cup
Green peas : 1/2 cup
Chopped Tomato : 1/4 cup
green chilli : 2-3 cut into small pieces
Curry leaves : 5-6
Fresh coconut : 2 tsp ( to garnish )
Chopped coriander : 2 tsp
Lemon juice :2 tsp
water : 2 cups
Vegetable oil : 4 tsp
Mustard seeds : 1 tsp
Cumin seeds : 1/2 tsp
Hing : 1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder : 1/2 tsp
Chopped carrot, fresh beans or any other veggies you like can be added.

Recipe :
1. Take the daliya in a pan, add 2 cups of water.
2. Pressure cook daliya till 2 whistles. When the pressure cooker cools down take out daliya & spread  in dish to separate it out. Let it cool. So it will not be sticky.
3. In a heavy bottom pan add oil. On the gas stove.
4. When oil becomes hot add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, turmeric powder & hing one by one.
5. Add green chilli & curry leaves. Add onion & cook it till soft.
6. Add green peas  Saute for some time.
7. Add daliya & mix properly. Add lemon juice. Mix again.
8. Sprinkle some water on it & cover for 2 minutes. Turn off the gas.
9. Garnish with coriander & fresh coconut.
Enjoy this healthy & tasty breakfast with dahi.



Plain amboli or dhirde

This is very healthy & simple recipe for breakfast !!



Ingredients  :
Rice : 3/4 cup
Urad dal ( split gram dal ) : 1/4 cup
Moong dal  : 1/4 cup
Masur dal ( pink lentil )  :  1/4  cup
Tuvar dal : 2 tsp
Chana dal : 2 tsp
Fenugreek (Methi ) seeds : 1/2 tsp
Salt : 1 tsp or as per taste
Oil :  for greasing griddle
Yogurt : 1/2 cup

 Mix all the above ingredients & get grounded. This flour can be stored for 2-3 months. You can grind it on mixer.
While preparing amboli add half cup of yogurt along with water in amboli mixture & keep for an hour. Then add water till dropping consistency. It should not be very thick.

Enjoy with  chutney !!

Healthy Amboli

Amboli is a type of pancake. A very healthy version. It contains all dals ( pulses ). So very rich in proteins also !! I made it more healthy & colourful by adding lots of veggies !!




Ingredients  :
For batter :
Rice : 3/4 cup
Urad dal ( split gram dal ) : 1/4 cup
Moong dal  : 1/4 cup
Masur dal ( pink lentil )  :  1/4  cup
Tuvar dal : 2 tsp
Chana dal : 2 tsp
Fenugreek (Methi ) seeds : 1/2 tsp
 Above mixture is dry grounded & stored for 2-3 months.
While preparing amboli add half cup of yogurt along with water & keep for an hour.
Salt : 1 tsp or as per taste
Oil :  for greasing griddle
Yogurt : 1/2 cup
Green chilli paste : 1/2 tsp
Coarsely ground black pepper : 1 tsp

Toppings :
Chopped onion : 1/2 cup
Chopped capsicum : 1/4 cup ( Red , green & yellow)
Grated carrot : 1/4cup
Chopped coriander : 1/4 cup
Butter : to apply on the top of uttapa ( optional )
You can use cheese also. Any variations in vegetables can be done.

Recipe :
1. Soak the  flour as required with yogurt & water. ( as explained above)
You can prepare the above mixture by soaking all the ingredients for 3-4 hours except yogurt & grinding on mixer. After grinding add yogurt, salt etc.
2.Add salt, chilli paste & black pepper.
3. Mix properly. No need of fermentation.
4. Prepare amboli by adding toppings as per your choice.
5. You can prepare plain amboli by adding salt & whole jeera.

Enjoy with  chutney !!

Shevai ( Vermicelli) sheera

We always prepare shevai kheer with shevai. Try this sheera tastes so yummy & looks also different!!



Ingredients :
Shevai (Vermicelli) : 1/2  Cup
Powdered sugar : 3 /4 Cup 
Milk   : 1 Cup
Water : 1/2 cup
Elaichi (Green Cardamom) powder : 1 tsp
Golden raisins : 4 tsp
Desi Ghee : 4 tsp
Coarse almond powder : 2 tsp
Saffron : 7-8 threads ( optional )
Small pinch of Salt.
Whole cashews : for garnishing


Recipe :
1. In a heavy bottom pan or kadhai add 3 tsp of desi ghee.
2. When ghee dissolves add shevai in it & roast properly till it turns brownish red. You will come to know with its heavenly aroma. You get roasted sevai in the market in that case  roast lightly in melted ghee & mix properly
3. On another gas stove boil water & milk withsugar.  Add elaichi powder.
4. Add this mixture in the roasted shevai & cover the pan.
5.Keep on low flame.
6. Mix it properly & cover the pan. Keep it on low flame till all milk &  water mixture evaporates. 
7. At this stage add remaining 1 tsp ghee mix again properly & turn off the flame.
8. Let it covered for 5 minutes. Add raisins & almond powder
9. Garnish it with roasted cashews & serve hot !!

Oats, Quinoa, vari chaval ( barnyard millet ) uttapa

Ingredients  :

Barnyard millet ( Vari or bhagar chaval ) : 1 cup
Plain oats : 1 cup
Quinoa : 1 cup
Udid dal ( split gram dal ) :  1/2  cup
Moong dal : 1/4 cup
Chana dal : 2 tsp
Fenugreek (Methi ) seeds : 1/2 tsp
Chopped spinach : 1 cup
Chopped onion : 1/2 cup
Chopped capsicum : 1/2 cup
Chilli flakes  or red chilli powder : 1 tsp
Salt : 1 tsp or as per taste
Oil :  for greasing griddle
Butter : to apply on the top of uttapa ( optional )

Recipe :
1. Soak vari chaval, oats, quinoa, udid dal, chana & moong dal, methi seeds in a large bowl overnight or 4- 5 hours is also sufficient.
2.Grind the mixture along with salt to fine paste.
3. Keep it for 8 hours for fermentation.
5. Mix the batter properly after fermentation. If required add some more salt.
7. Mix all chopped vegetables, Add red chilli powder & salt & mix well.
    You can use any veggies of your choice.
8.Grease non stick griddle with little oil. Prepare utappa with the veggies toppings.
    This Uttappa really tastes awesome moreover it is healthy too.
Enjoy with sambar or chutney !!

Vari chaval idli

I just tried this vari chaval idli & it turned out so fluffy & soft. Vari is healthy replacement for rice!!
Must try recipe !!






Ingredients :
Barnyard millet ( Vari or bhagar chaval ) : 1 cup
Udid dal ( split gram dal ) :  1/3   cup
Moong dal : 1/4 cup
Chana dal : 2 tsp
Fenugreek (Methi ) seeds : 1/2 tsp
Kumure ( puffed rice ) : 1/2 cup
Salt : 1 tsp or as per taste
Oil : 3 tsp for greasing idli mould.

Recipe :
1. Soak vari chaval, udid dal, moong dal, chana dal & methi in a large bowl overnight or 4- 5 hours is also sufficient.
2.Grind the mixture along with salt & puffed rice ( kurmure ) to fine paste. 3
3. Keep it for 8 hours for fermentation like normal chaval idli.
5. Add red chilli powder & salt.
6. Mix the batter properly after fermentation. If required add some more salt.
7. Prepare idlis as usual greasing idli mould.

Enjoy this light & soft idli with sambar & chautney.



Stuffed & baked Sweet corn & spinach buns

Ingredients :
All purpose flour ( maida) : 1/2 cup
Whole wheat flour : 1/2 cup
Dry yeast : 1 tsp ( I used Blue Bird )
Normal sugar : 1 tsp ( to activate the yeast)
Salt : 1/4 tsp
Olive oil : 4 tsp
Warm water : 1/2 cup
Sesame seeds : 2 tsp
Grated cheese : 4 tsp

For Stuffing : 
Boiled & coarsely ground Sweet corn : 3/4 cup
Chopped Spinach : 3/4 cup
Mashed potato : 1/4 cup
Green chilli paste ; 1 tsp
Garlic paste : 1 tsp
Ginger paste : 1/2 tsp
Garam Masala : 1 tsp
Salt : 1 tsp or As per taste.
Vegetable oil : 2 tsp
Add oil in a pan. Turn on the gas. Add chilli, garlic & ginger paste one by one & roast nicely. Add spinach. Sauté for 2 minutes. Add corn & mashed potato. Add salt & garam masala. Mix properly. The mixture should be dry. Keep aside to cool down.  

Recipe :
1. Take yeast & sugar in bowl.
2. Add warm water in yeast & sugar mixture.
3. Keep aside for 5 minutes.
4. You will observe bubbles & mixture will be fluffy.
5. Add salt & olive oil. Sieve maida & whole wheat flour . Mix to make a nice dough.
6. Transfer the dough on clean greased platform. Knead the dough about 10 min. till it becomes elastic. Use little maida or oil while kneading if needed.
7. Prepare a soft dough  & keep in a big bowl .Cover the bowl  . Let it rest for 1 hour.
8. After 1 hour the dough will be double of original size.
9.  Punch the dough & again knead for about 10 minutes.
10. Prepare small buns stuffing with cheese, sweet corn & spinach mixture.
11. Arrange the buns on baking tray. Keep the tray for about 1 hour.
12. Bake the buns in preheated oven at 200 for 10 minutes or till it turns brown.
Above measurement yields about 9 small buns..    
Enjoy hot home made soft  delicious stuffed buns with tomato ketchup.

Small sweet & soft buns ( Bun pav)

These small sweet buns are good for tea time!! !! Also snack for children! 




Ingredients :
All purpose flour ( maida) : 3/4 cup
Whole wheat flour : 1/4 cup

Tuty fruity : 2 tsp

Above measurement yields about 9 small buns..    
Enjoy hot home made soft  delicious buns with hot tea or eat like that !!

One more Healthy Breakfast cereal !!






Ingredients :
Oats : 21/2 cups ( I used Suffola oats )
Wheat flex  : 1 cup
Corn flex  : 1 cup
Amaranth grain ( Rajgira lahi )   : 1/2 cup
Flax seeds ( Javas or Alsi ) : 1/4 cup
Chopped roasted Almonds: 1/3 cup
Chopped roasted Walnuts  : 1/3 cup
Chopped black raisins : 1/2 cup
Golden raisins ( khismis ) : 3 tsp
Honey : 2 tsp
Olive oil : 2 tsp
Cinnamon powder ( dalchini ) : 1/2 tsp
Nutmeg powder ( jayphal) : 1 tsp
Vanilla essence : 1/2 tsp
I used plain corn & wheat flex which are available very cheep in market.


Recipe :
  1. Roast oats , Wheat flex, Corn flex one by one by adding very small amount of olive oil.
  2. Roast Rajgira lahi & flax seeds. 
  3. Roast till all the cereals turn brown & crispy.
  4. After cooling  mix all the cereals.  
  5. Add chopped almonds, walnuts, raisins, khismis, nutmeg & dalchini powder.
  6. Add honey. Mix all the ingredients properly.
  7. Again roast for 5 minutes on medium flame till all the ingredients mix nicely.
  8. Cool completely. Store the cereal in a airtight container.
  9. Serve this healthy with hot or cold milk as per your choice.
  10. You can add fresh fruits if you like. 
Above measure yields about 750 gms .

Home made Healthy Breakfast Cereal

 This is very healthy recipe for breakfast which can be substitute for the cereals we buy from the market!! We get proteins, carbohytrates, vitamins, fibres everything in this cereal in pure & natural form.
Taste is enhanced with dry fruits & chopped fresh fruits. Ideal for adults as well as children!!!!






Ingredients :
Ragi flour: 1 cup
Roasted powdered oats : 1 cup
Wheat ata  : 1/2 cup
Split Bengal Gram ( Chana dal )  : 1/4 cup
Split Green gram ( Moong dal : 1/4 cup
Lentil dal ( Masoor dal) : 1/4 cup
Soya bin flour : 1/4 cup
Dry dates powder ( kharik) : 1 cup
Elaychi powder : 1 tsp
Nutmeg powder ( jayphal) : 1/2 tsp


Recipe :
  1. Dry roast ragi flour, Wheat flour, Soya bin flour each  separately till turns little brown. Keep aside. Dry roast oats & grind to coarse powder.
  2. Dry roast chana dal, moong dal & 
  3. masoor dal  separate till brown. Let them cool completely.
  4. After cooling grind them to fine powder.
  5. Roast dry dates pieces. After cooling grind them to powder. You can use the powder you get in the market. 
  6. Mix all the ingredients properly.
  7. Add elaychi & jaiphal powder & again mix properly.
  8. Store this healthy cereal powder in a container.
How to use :
Take the required quantity ( 3-4 tbsp is enough for a person ) in a bowl. Add 1/2 cup of milk in the cereal. Mix & keep in the microwave oven for 30 seconds. Take the bowl out & again stir properly. Add 1/2 cup of milk & again microwave for 30 seconds. Your cereal is ready!! Add chopped almonds, walnuts, black raisins. Add some pieces of fresh fruits like banana, apple,peach whatever you like. Add sugar if more sweetness is required as per personal taste.
If you do not have microwave oven, add hot milk in the cereal powder & stir properly as all the ingredients are roasted properly. Then add dry fruits or fruits in it & enjoy!!
Or add 2 tsp in a glass of hot milk along with some sugar & drink this instant energy milk!!
