- Green bell pepper (shimla mirch): 1/4 cup
- Green peas: 1/4 cup

- Chopped curry leaves: 8–10
Method
- Soak the rice in a bowl for 4–5 hours.
- Soak the urad dal and chana dal for 4–5 hours.
- Drain the water, but do not throw it away. Use a little of it for grinding.
- Grind the rice and dals to a very smooth batter.
- Pour the batter into a vessel and mix thoroughly.
- Leave the batter overnight to ferment. Use a large bowl, otherwise the batter will overflow as it ferments.
- Add salt to taste and mix the batter gently. Add all the vegetables, the chopped ginger and chilli, cumin, curry leaves and ground pepper, and mix well.
- Heat the appe pan on the stove and add a little oil to each cavity. Drop a spoonful of batter into each cavity, cover and cook until golden. Flip them and cook the other side too.
Enjoy with chutney or tomato ketchup.
